- Active neck hematoma or expanding wound
- Severe symptomatic hypocalcemia requiring IV calcium
- Wound infection requiring surgical intervention

- Expanding neck swelling, tightness, or visible bulging at the incision (hematoma)
- Difficulty breathing or stridor (airway compression)
- Severe tingling around lips, fingertips, or toes with muscle cramping or spasms (severe hypocalcemia)
- Muscle twitching, carpopedal spasm, or tetany (dangerous hypocalcemia)
- Seizure (severe hypocalcemia)
